Autumn is upon us! Though here in New Jersey, Mother Nature really doesn’t seem quite ready to let go of summer just yet. We’re still getting the occasional 80+ degree day despite cool mornings and even cooler evenings.

Even though right now I don’t know how to dress through out the day due to the ever changing temperatures, this is my very favorite season! I could do with some cooler daytime temperatures but in the meantime, I’m content with my crisp morning and evenings. I’m all ready to start autumn baking and this Chipotle Apple Pear Crisp is a fine place to start.

Once October and November roll around there’s no shortage of apples to be found at grocery stores, farmers markets and farms. We take full advantage of this hearty apple season since apples are one of our favorite fruits.

With plenty on hand I decided to make a classic apple crisp with a twist by adding pears and some unexpected spices. Recently I was fortunate enough to be sent a few products from Bob’s Red Mill. I absolutely LOVE their products! They have so many wonderful grains, flours, granolas and more!

I love their Gluten Free 1-to-1 Baking Flour for all my baking needs. It can easily be subbed into any recipe that calls for all-purpose flour and you’ll get consistent results with no worries of a recipe fail. I also adore their Classic Granola. The girls and I love to snack on it throughout the day by the handful or sprinkle a bit on top of yogurt or even ice cream!

Which brings us back to this tempting Chipotle Apple Pear Crisp. Ripe apples and pears are tossed with cinnamon, allspice and a touch of chipotle pepper. Yes! Chipotle pepper. This adds a delightful smokiness with just a bit of warmth which takes this classic comfort food to an interesting new level.

Then I combined some flour, granola, a touch of coconut sugar and butter to make a crumbly crisp topping. Once sprinkled on top, into the oven it went and what emerged was a warm, sweet, smoky crisp recipe perfect for a cool autumn evening.
